Austria have been one of the stand-out teams of Euro 2024 so far and they go into tomorrow’s game with Turkey full of confidence.

Ralf Rangnick’s side topped Group D, which also contained France, the Netherlands and Poland, by playing a high-tempo, high-press game that has won them plenty of admirers. And with the draw opening up, there is a belief that Austria could make a run to the latter stages.

Their non-playing captain David Alaba told UEFA.com: “We’re aware the expectations are getting higher, but we don’t let this get to us. We don’t get distracted. It’s important to stay focused. We have our own expectations, our own demands as well within the team. And we want to live up to them, of course.

“We won’t drive ourselves crazy because of expectations. It goes without saying that the next game is a very special one for us, but we also want to enjoy this moment somehow and not lose this relaxed atmosphere that we have within the team.”

Turkey, and their passionate support, will make it difficult for Austria in Leipzig.

Vincenzo Montella’s men are also in a positive frame of mind after Cenk Tosun’s 94th-minute goal secured a 2-1 win against the Czech Republic and ensured they finished second in Group F. They are, however, without captain Hakan Çalhanoğlu and defender Samet Akaydin due to suspension.

The teams met in a friendly in March with Austria winning 6-1 in Vienna.
