July 1 – Manchester United have launched their new home kit ahead of the 2024-25 Premier League season with new front-of-shirt sponsor Snapdragon making its debut appearance after a £60 million deal was struck with the American tech firm to replace former sponsor TeamViewer.
The Red Devils are looking to bounce back from their worst-ever Premier League finish last term as they enter their first full campaign under the leadership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Ratcliffe, having trawled Europe for a new manager, eventually decided to stick with manager Erik ten Hag who will lead the club into another year of their decade-long rebuild project.
Scott McTominay, Lisandro Martinez, Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund all featured in the shirt unveiling on Monday.
Old Trafford wantaway Casemiro also joined his teammates in the kit release campaign, leading to speculation of another season in Manchester for the 32-year-old Brazil international despite heavy links to Saudi Arabia, paired with a difficult end to the 23/24 season which saw him fall down Ten Hag’s pecking order.
According to adidas, the kit design takes inspiration from the Busby Babes between 1952 and 1957. In practice, though, the strip looks strikingly familiar to the kit donned by Nottingham Forest last season.
Regardless, the kit has been met with positive feedback from United fans.
Sam Handy, SVP of Product and Design at adidas said: “The colour red is consistently fundamental to the club’s DNA. There have been many different expressions of it over the years and, for 24-25, we wanted to do something a bit different.
“We’ve drawn inspiration from shirts that Manchester United experimented with from 1952-57 as floodlights were introduced to stadiums. These were fantastic early examples of creative design in matchwear and were worn by some of the club’s most legendary players.”
Home kit with prices start at £80 for adult shirts.
