Newcastle announce Vlachodimos, Anderson and Minteh deals – Official confirmation

Newcastle United have announced the signing of Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest, also confirming that Elliot Anderson has sealed a move in the other direction.

The club have also released official confirmation that 19-year-old winger Yankuba Minteh has sealed a permanent move to Brighton, seeing the Gambian leave for a reported fee in the region of £33m.

Vlachodimos arrives after just 12 months at the City Ground, with the 30-year-old stopper sealing a £7.7m move from Benfica last September. Since then, he’s struggled for game time and arrives as a replacement for departing German Loris Karius; who saw his Newcastle contract formally expire over the weekend.

While Newcastle do not name the fee we’ll receive for Anderson, it’s believed the Geordie midfielder has joined Forest for around £35m, with his sale driven by our need to comply with the Premier League’s PSR rules before the end of June.

A real shame for Anderson – a boyhood fan who was living his dream after breaking into Howe’s first team – and a frustration we never saw Minteh play in black and white, but two necessary moves to ensure we didn’t face a points deduction over the 2024/25 season.

We’d like to wish all of the best to Elliot and Yankuba welcome Odysseas to the Toon!
