This past Monday saw Sergi Roberto officially become a free agent as his contract with FC Barcelona expired on June 30.
Although a one-season renewal has already been agreed and drafted between the player and the 32-year-old, it has not been possible to sign the documents due to the Catalans’ need to obtain financial fair play.
The youth academy player is therefore still on holiday and awaiting any movements that may take place at the club. In any case, his patience will not be unlimited and a key date may be 10 July, when the players return for pre-season training.
Barcelona reassure Roberto
As per SPORT, Sergi Roberto knows that he has the confidence of sporting director Deco and that new coach Hansi Flick would also be delighted to see him captain the team for a second season.
Therefore, the sporting conditions are in place for him to continue, there is no problem in the one-year contract between the club and the player, but Barcelona must solve their economic situation with La Liga.
