Miguel Almrion update – Three clubs keen, asking price set and Saudis step back

Earlier this week, Sky Sports’ Keith Downie revealed that an unnamed Saudi Pro League side are in talks over a summer move for Miguel Almiron.

A few days on, Ben Jacobs – a former Bein Sports reporter with good links in the Middle East – has issued an update on Almiron’s future, revealing that Newcastle are ‘open to offers’ and discussing a £20m sale.

He reports that Saudi Al-Qadsiah are showing eary interest, although he is not currently a ‘priority target’. Al-Shabab are ‘willing to return’ after serious interest earlier this year, but ‘only if they receive clear encouragement’ that a deal is possible after their January bid failed.

Al-Ittihad have also been linked and fans have noted that the Paraguayan has just started ‘following’ the SPL giants on Instagram, but Jacobs reveals that Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq are not currently in the race for the winger.

It’s believed Ettifaq have not held talks over a deal, despite reports from the Middle East last night, as they consider Miggy to be ‘too expensive’.

As for Almiron himself, it remains to be seen if the player has changed his mind about a possible move to Saudi Arabia after his refusal to join Al-Shabab in January. The former MLS star has been on Tyneside over five years and now has a young family, although the lure of a lucrative deal might just tempt him.
