According to reports, Odysseas Vlachodimos may not be the only player Newcastle look to sign from Nottingham Forest this summer.
The Athletic report that we ‘retain an interest’ in Anthony Elanga after the winger was looked at in an initial part-exchange deal including Elliot Anderson, with Eddie Howe thought to be an admirer.
The Swedish international tore us apart in Forest’s Boxing Day win at St James’ Park and has enjoyed a good season at the City Ground, bagging five goals and nine assists. He may be a squad target if Miguel Almiron joins Yankuba Minteh in leaving, but many feel we need to aim higher if we’re only signing one right winger this summer.
The other name is Morgan Gibbs-White. That link had gone quiet after The Telegraph reported in January that he was a key target, but Mark Douglas’ latest piece for the i reveals that he remains a target, with the club keen to sign a right-sided attacker along with a centre-back and striker should Callum Wilson be sold.
Gibbs-White ticks several boxes as a hard-working young English player with plenty of quality, versatility and potential to develop under Howe, but I’m not convinced where he fits in. He’s rarely played on the right wing and is more of an attacking midfielder, but we don’t play with a No.10 in our 4-3-3 formation.
