Yankuba Minteh ‘swap’ broke down over personal terms prior to Brighton switch – Report

According to The Athletic, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s failure to agree personal terms with Newcastle scuppered Yankuba Minteh’s proposed move to Everton.

The Gambian winger has completed a move to Brighton for a club-record £33m fee, securing our biggest sale since Andy Carroll’s £35m sale to Liverpool in 2011. However, it’s believed he came close to joining Everton just a few days prior.

The Athletic reveal that the 19-year-old looked all set to secure a move to Merseyside, with Calvert-Lewin heading in the opposite direction in deals that helped satisfy both clubs’ PSR needs, but negotiations ‘fell apart’ after the 27-year-old striker failed to agree terms with Newcastle.

Further details are not clear, but this suggests the Toffees forward couldn’t agree personal terms with Newcastle, whether that be over his weekly wage, length of contract of assurances over his playing time under Eddie Howe.

Some feel we be better off looking elsewhere, as Calvert-Lewin has only managed 14 Premier League goals over the past three season and has had his fair share of injury issues, despite hope he could thrive under Howe in a more attacking side.

He’s out of contract next summer and could move on if he fails to sign a new deal on Merseyside, but it seems he won’t be arriving at St James’ Park unless something changes – whether it’s Everton’s asking price of the player’s demands.
