Barcelona’s acquisition of Portuguese international getting difficult for multiple reasons

Journalist Fernando Polo of Mundo Deportivo has suggested that each passing day makes it increasingly unlikely to see Joao Felix wearing Barcelona’s colours next season.

It must be noted that Barcelona are currently focused on boosting their income to meet La Liga’s 1:1 financial rule, which restricts their ability to make new signings or activate loans unless absolutely necessary. 

Although La Liga chief Javier Tebas has confirmed that everything is on track, this financial constraint poses a challenge for potentially bringing in Felix, whose future at Barcelona looks uncertain at the moment. 

Furthermore, Atletico Madrid are pushing for a permanent departure of the Portuguese international with Benfica willing to pay up for 50% of the player’s rights.

However, there remains a possibility that this outlook could shift, given his popularity with both sporting director Deco and president Joan Laporta. 

Options aplenty

It is suggested that there are obstacles that could prevent Felix’s arrival, with alternatives being considered.

One such alternative is Raphinha, a well-regarded player in the market, who is currently hesitant to leave Barcelona.

With Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres occupying positions on the right wing, Raphinha could serve as an option for the left wing. 

Additionally, Ansu Fati is keen on staying after his loan spell at Brighton, supported by Barcelona’s sports management team who are working to help him regain his top form with the aid of newly hired fitness trainers. 

Furthermore, Barcelona are actively pursuing top-quality left-wingers, with a strong interest in Nico Williams and Luis Diaz, who are both on Deco’s radar.

There is still hope

Given these considerations, the prospect of signing Felix does not appear feasible at this time, despite the volatile nature of Barcelona’s transfer market dealings.
