We are certainly into the ‘business end’ of the European Championships now as on Friday two of the tournament favourites, Spain and Germany, go head-to-head in Stuttgart.
The aura of this fixture has final vibes due to the status of the two nations involved, and one thing is certain – we will lose one of the best teams in the competition at the quarter-final stage.
Here’s how the squads are shaping up heading into this huge fixture.
Spain Team News
.
Having just blew Georgia away with a comprehensive 4-1 victory in the last 16, it is unlikely that Spain boss Luis De la Fuente will make any changes to his starting XI for this one, with no fresh injury concerns and no suspensions to deal with.
Rodri, Dani Olmo, Fabian Ruiz and Nico Williams all scored in that one.
Goalkeeper Unai Simon will start behind a back four of Dani Carvajal, Robin Le Normand, Aymeric Laporte and Marc Cucurella. Nacho is available again after a slight knock, but he’ll have to settle for a place on the bench, as will the likes of left-back Alex Grimaldo.
Olmo replaced Pedri as a substitute against Georgia and came on to score, but the Barca star will probably start again alongside Rodri and Ruiz in midfield.
At the moment, the dazzling front three of Williams, Alvaro Morata and Lamine Yamal picks itself.
Germany Team News
.
The Germany side is less certain, but Julian Nagelsmann facing some selection issues.
Jonathan Tah is available again after his suspension for the win against Denmark last time out, but Nico Schlotterbeck acquitted himself well and even earned an assist for Musiala’s goal, so a spot alongside Antonio Rudiger is up for grabs for both.
Nagelsmann will need to choose between David Raum and Maximilian Mittelstadt for the left-back berth.
Leroy Sane failed to take advantage of a place in the starting XI after replacing Florian Wirtz last game, so the Leverkusen man might come back in.
Spain (4-3-3): Simon; Carvajal, Le Normand, Laporte, Cucurella; Pedri, Rodri, Ruiz; Yamal, Morata,…
