Barcelona Golden Boy shows support for Joao Felix after Euro exit

On Friday night, we got our first two semi-finalists of the UEFA Euro 2024 as Spain beat Germany 2-1 before France eliminated Portugal via penalty shootouts.

Even though Spain advanced to the semis, it came at a cost as Barcelona midfielder Pedri suffered a knee injury and will miss the rest of the tournament and possibly the pre-season with the club.

Portugal’s elimination, on the other hand, saw two of Barcelona’s summer transfer targets – Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix – exit from the tournament, with the latter coming in for a lot of criticism after the game.

Gavi offers support to Joao Felix

Joao Felix was guilty of spurning a good chance to score after coming on as a substitute in extra time for Portugal.

The Atletico Madrid forward, who spent the last season on loan at Barcelona, then went on to miss his penalty during the shootout, resulting in their elimination.

Naturally, Felix was devastated after what had gone down during the game and in that situation Barcelona midfield prodigy Gavi extended his support to the 24-year-old.

Taking to social media, Gavi posted an image of himself and Joao Felix hugging each other with a message that read: “Always with you, brother.”

Gavi and Joao Felix forged a strong relationship while the latter was at Barcelona last season. While the club sought his continuity for the next season as well, that possibility is looking bleaker by the day.

After all, Atletico Madrid wish to offload the Portuguese forward permanently while Barça only seek a loan deal with a buy option. With Benfica offering €30 million for 50% of Felix’s rights, a move back to his former club looks likely.
