Red Devils could benefit from Bayern fire sale

Man United have yet to really enter the summer transfer market in earnest.

The Red Devils need to strengthen in a number of areas but, as with many clubs, they are jostling for position in certain deals at present, waiting for others to show their hand before making their move.

A ‘domino effect’ of sorts is likely to kick-start the window, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this not begin properly until the European Championship and Copa America is over.

Man United on alert as up to six Bayern players could be sold

The Olympic Games throws another curve ball into the mix this summer, though they shouldn’t affect sales and purchases in the beautiful game from going through.

One player that Man United appear particularly interested in is Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt, a centre-back who was previously Erik ten hag’s captain whilst both were at Ajax.

Should he end up at Old Trafford in time for the 2024/25 campaign, it wouldn’t be a surprise for him to be given the captain’s armband at Bruno Fernandes’ expense.

In any event, Bayern appear to be in a little financial difficulty.

According to Kicker (subscription required), though the Bavarians have signed Michael Olise and Hiroki Ito, and intend to land Joao Palhinha from Fulham, this shouldn’t mask the fact that the club need to make sales. Lots of them in fact.

The outlet name as many as six players that might need to pack their bags this summer and head out of Munich at the earliest opportunity.

Aside from de Ligt, Kingsley Coman, Alphonso Davies, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry and Joshua Kimmich all appear to be available for the right price.

That’s an unprecedented fire sale from a club whose hierarchy clearly believe that such a move is warranted.
