There have been some underwhelming displays at Euro 2024, but one player who has impressed in every game he’s played is Turkish defender Ferdi Kadıoğlu.
He’s been one of the top-performing defenders all tournament, playing a key role in Turkey’s run to the last eight and he’s now been linked with a potential summer move to St James’ Park.
As revealed by Turkish-Football, it’s believed Newcastle United had scouts in Turkey’s quarter-final clash with the Netherlands on Saturday night, with their report claiming that Toon officials were paying close attention to Kadıoğlu.
The 24-year-old Fenerbahce star has been impressing at left-back for the Turks, although it’s worth noting that he’s a right-footed defender who can play in a number of positions, seeing him operate on both sides of a back four, in midfield and as a winger across his 146 Super Lig appearances.
It’s thought that scouts from Arsenal and Napoli were also watching the €30m-rated full-back on Saturday night, while Brighton and Borussia Dortmund have also been strongly linked with summer bids.
This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with Kadıoğlu, as we covered two pieces in 2023 claiming we’d sent scouts to watch the Dutch-born defender in action for Fenerbahce.
Who knows if we’ve reignited our interest, but with Eddie Howe a BIG fan of versatile players, doubts existing around Kieran Trippier’s future down the right and Lewis Hall a work in progress down our left, he could be a superb signing if his all-action displays at Euro 2024 are anything to go by.
