As we revealed last June in a NUFC Blog exclusive, Newcastle hold long-term interest in AC Milan centre-back Malick Thiaw.
The 22-year-old endured an up-and-down 2023/24 campaign, where a niggling injury impacted his first-team minutes, but that in itself may have opened the door for Newcastle, who’ve been in talks with the Serie A giants in recent weeks over a potential deal for the German international.
Not only do Newcastle have previous with AC Milan when negotiating a deal and Sandro Tonali on hand to speak with Thiaw if the 6ft 4′ defender needed convincing, there’s also an agent link that could work in our favour.
Thiaw is represented by USG (Unique Sports Group), who looks after Anthony Gordon – their most valuable client according to Transfermarkt – Lewis Miley, Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelels and Isaac Hayden.
This does little to help us agree a fee with AC Milan, but will only support our bid to sign the player if we can strike a deal with the Serie A side, as Thiaw’s representatives clearly have history with Newcastle and an active working relationship.
Thiaw ticks so many boxes as a young, athletic right-sided centre-back who could learn from Fabian Schar and eventually replace Sven Botman, so it really feels like this could have legs if we manage to agree a deal with AC Milan.
