Barcelona set to pocket over €3 million for releasing players for UEFA Euro 2024

Journalist Sergi Sole from Mundo Deportivo has reported some exciting news for Barcelona, as the club is set to receive over €3 million in compensation from UEFA for releasing its players to the European Championship.

Specifically, Barcelona will earn €3.161 million for sending 12 players to the tournament, a new record for the club.

The substantial payout comes as a result of Spain’s qualification for the final, which included four Barcelona players: Pedri, Fermin Lopez, Lamine Yamal, and Ferran Torres.

This performance boosts Barcelona’s earnings to €3,161,655, surpassing the potential €3,044,955 they would have received if France had made it to the final instead.

Why is Barcelona receiving compensation?

It must be noted that this compensation stems from a decision made by UEFA where they approve a player loan fund for the European Championship.

Clubs receive a bonus of €10,000 per player for each day they are released for the tournament.

This figure has increased significantly from €8,700 for Euro 2021 and €4,000 per day back in 2008. The European Club Association (ECA) played a crucial role in negotiating this increase, marking a successful agreement with UEFA in January 2008.

Barcelona’s previous record for European Championship earnings was €2,850,056 in 2021. They also received €2,017,499 in 2016, €2,210,202 in 2012, and €955,090 in 2008.

The club’s highest earnings from a World Cup came from Qatar 2022, where they received €4,114,902 for having 17 players called up, a historic record for any club.

Who are the players Barcelona will be compensated for

For the current European Championship, Barcelona will receive the full €10,000 per day bonus for players such as Pedri, Yamal, Torres, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Robert Lewandowski, Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde, and Frenkie de Jong.
