Apart from Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, Dani Olmo is another name that has featured prominently in football headlines throughout Euro 2024.
The RB Leipzig forward, in fact, is currently one of the most sought-after prospects in the transfer market, with the player reportedly having a release clause that can be activated before July 15.
Olmo’s contract situation has put multiple top clubs in Europe on red alert, with Barcelona among the interested parties.
Olmo’s release clause deadline extended
As speculations run rampant, a recent report from SPORT has offered an interesting update on Olmo’s transfer saga.
The Spanish news publication claims the deadline for Olmo’s release clause – July 15, has been extended for five days on account of Spain reaching the final of Euro 2024.

That means any club willing to pay his €60 million release clause can do so until July 20. Though not much of an extension, these five days could be valuable for any interested party.
Do Barcelona stand a chance?
Barcelona, in particular, could be one of the key beneficiaries of this extension, as time has indeed been of the essence for the Catalans this summer.
However, it must be noted that meeting Olmo’s €60 million valuation, though reasonable, could be tricky for the Catalans due to the club’s economic turmoil.
Moreover, Barça have shown more interest in Olmo’s Spanish teammate Nico Williams, whose synergy with Lamine Yamal makes him the club’s priority target in attack.
Barcelona may also face stiff competition from Premier League clubs, who are more than willing to meet the Spaniard’s €60 million release clause.
