Immediately after Thiago announced his retirement from football, talk of him returning to his boyhood club Barcelona began doing the rounds, but this time in a managerial position.
Hansi Flick has thus far bolstered the coaching staff with individuals he is familiar with and trusts implicitly.
Thiago’s availability therefore appealed immensely to the German coach, given that the pair worked together at Bayern Munich.
Flick held discussions with Thiago at the club offices yesterday to convince him to assume managerial duties.
And after much persuasion, it appears Thiago will be dipping his toes back into the football world, at the club where he first made a name for himself.
Thiago to assist Barcelona temporarily
As per Cadena SER, Thiago will “work” for a few days, or even weeks, with Flick and his staff to help him convey concepts to the players and also contribute his point of view..
Flick is eager to integrate him into the staff permanently with a long-term role, but for now, Thiago’s assistance will be temporary, spanning just a few days or weeks.

While Flick plans to capitalize on Thiago’s exceptional game intelligence and deep understanding of football, Barcelona still stands to gain considerably in the short term from his improved communication among the coach, players, and journalists.
Thiago’s fluent German, honed during his seven years with Bayern Munich, is set to play a crucial role in bridging the barrier between Flick and the players.
As of now, the 33-year-old is focusing on finalizing contract details. Discussions with club officials such as Bojan and sporting director Deco have been productive.
While nothing is confirmed, progress suggests a positive direction, with Flick poised to reunite with one of his most trusted midfield controllers.
