Former Barcelona star mesmerised by La Masia gem – ‘The best player I’ve seen at 16’

Being 16 years old and already being one of the brightest stars in football can be overwhelming, but this is the reality for Lamine Yamal, a young footballer who has just completed his first year as a professional in a manner that many find hard to believe. 

Yamal’s performances in the European Championship have been outstanding, propelling him to the forefront of the football world and the praise and recognition he is receiving are numerous and well-deserved.

The recent to join the bandwagon is Gary Lineker, a legendary football figure. The former Barcelona striker is captivated by Yamal’s exceptional talent and does not dismiss the possibility that he could achieve historic milestones in his career. 

“Is he really the next superstar? I think it’s a bit unfair to him because we can’t put that much weight on him, but oh boy… Even Messi was later than him,” said the former forward as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

“I’m not saying he is going to be like Messi or Maradona, but he could be. I mean, what he is doing at his age, not even Pele was doing, who was a year older when he scored a double in the World Cup final. I think he’s the best player I’ve seen at 16,” he added.

In all fairness, Lineker’s admiration is a significant endorsement, considering his own illustrious career and deep understanding of the game.

Meanwhile, it must be noted that Linekar ended a recent BBC program with a nod to the legendary commentary of Clive Tyldesley, highlighting Yamal’s extraordinary potential. 

Tyldesley is known for his memorable calls in football history, and by drawing a parallel, Lineker emphasises just how special Yamal is. Explaining his nod, he said,

“I remember Rooney when he scored a similar goal with the narration of Remember the name: Wayne Rooney. That is why I closed the programme…
