Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has won the Golden Boy 2024 award – report

In a huge development, Esport3 reports that Barcelona teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has won the prestigious Golden Boy award for the year 2024.

The La Masia forward, who will be turning 17 years old tomorrow, has enjoyed a spectacular season with both club and country.

Having exploded at Barcelona during the campaign, Yamal is now leading the charge for Spain at the UEFA Euro 2024.

Given his exploits, the 16-year-old winger had emerged as the favourite to win the Golden Boy Award which recognises the best player under the age of 21 and is presented by Italian publication Tuttosport.

While Yamal was said to be the frontrunner to win the prestigious honour, the update from the aforementioned publication states that the teenage sensation has already won the Golden Boy award for this year.

AS journalist Joaquín Maroto, who happens to be one of the members of the Golden Boy jury, revealed on Esport3’s ‘Onze’ program that Lamine Yamal will be the winner of this year’s trophy.

Although the votes are open until July 26, Maroto has revealed that Yamal will be the winner, joining the likes of Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas, Pedri, and Gavi on the list of players to have won the Golden Boy.

Pedri and Gavi were the recipients of the honour in 2021 and 2022, respectively, before Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham won the award last year.

Now, the prize returns to Barcelona with Yamal already being declared the winner even though the votes are still open for a few more weeks.
