Former Barcelona forward talks about his departure: “The manager did not support me”

Nine years have passed since Pedro Rodriguez bid farewell to FC Barcelona, marking a significant chapter in his career.

In a recent interview with Jijantes, he delved into his Barça days, reflecting on his departure from the team in 2015.

The 36-year-old opened up about the bittersweet moment following their European Super Cup triumph over Sevilla. Back then, he played alongside Lionel Messi and David Villa in the iconic Trident under Pep Guardiola.

Despite being a key player, Pedro later found himself as a valuable substitute during the era of MSN—Messi, Suarez, and Neymar—under Luis Enrique’s management.

“My departure from Barça was difficult because it was the club of my life and I had been there for many years.

“The president was with me, but the coach not so much. I like how I left, with the affection of my teammates and the fans,” said the forward.

Pedro loved life at Barcelona

Nostalgically, the former Barcelona star reminisced about his time at the Blaugrana club, cherishing moments shared with some of football’s greatest legends.

He expressed a fondness for the camaraderie and the privilege of being in the presence of such talent.

“Being lucky enough to be able to play with Messi, Xavi, Iniesta… to be able to score in all competitions and have a successful career in my first stage as a player makes me feel privileged.”

However, Pedro revealed a lingering regret from his departure—a missed opportunity to reach a century of goals for Barcelona.

He humorously recounted conversations with Xavi about a potential return to achieve this milestone, underscoring his attachment to the club and its unfinished business.

“I was one goal away from 100 with Barça. When Xavi was there, I told him to take me to take a penalty and I left. I was left with a thorn in my side about being able to close this story,” he revealed.
