As reported by The Mail’s Craig Hope, Newcastle United are set to appoint former Monaco performance director James Bunce, seeing him reunite with new sporting director Paul Mitchell.
Bunce has worked alongside Mitchell for some time now, as both were together at Southampton before joining the Ligue 1 side back in 2020.
As Hope reveals, Bunce is likely to be appointed ‘director of performance’ at Newcastle to help build the club’s infrastructure. Under Mitchell’s direction, his previous role at Monaco saw him focus on ‘injury prevention and risk reduction, monitoring physical preparation, performance, medical, nutritional and psychological aspects.’
This comes following the news that co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi would be leaving the club after just three years, so it looks like we’re in for a big shake up behind the scenes ahead of the new season.
It will certainly be exciting to see how Mitchell and Bunce work together in the next couple of months to ensure Newcastle can achieve their targets in the transfer window and beyond ahead of a big 2024/25 season.
🚨 Exclusive: James Bunce (ex Monaco performance director) will be joining new sporting director Paul Mitchell at NUFC as restructuring of hierarchy continues. It’s likely his role will be director of performance.
