Some intriguing transfer claims have emerged today from Fabrizio Romano, who reports that we’ve joined the race to sign Dutch sensation Xavi Simons.
He reveals that Newcastle have been in touch with PSG to ‘ask for information’ on the 21-year-old attacker who is expected to leave the Ligue 1 giants this summer.
Romano believes that RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich are the ‘two favourites’ for his signature’ – he bagged 10 goals and 15 assists during a loan spell at Leipzig last season – but it’s encouraging to hear Newcastle are exploring a deal for such a talented young player.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Let me tell you that another club that asked for information on Xavi Simons was Newcastle to understand the situation of the player, but again was few days ago, not months ago. And this is why Leipzig and Bayern remain the two favourites.”
Like our attempted move for Michael Olise last month, this feels like a long shot, but it shows that we’re in the market for quality players as we search for a new right-winger.
