Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on the Toon transfer front, discussing the latest on Malick Thiaw, James Trafford and our search for four more signings this summer.
He confirms that we’ve held discussions with AC Milan over Thiaw, but insists that he is one of ‘three or four names’ who’ve been shortlisted at centre-back. To our surprise, Romano also reports that we are still in the market for ‘priority target’ James Trafford, despite signing Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy earlier this month.
As for the ‘three to four’ signings wanted over the next six weeks of the window, you suspect that is a centre-back, right-winger, another striker and a goalkeeper, if Burnley’s Trafford remains a target.
Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “[They are] also in for a centre-back, because they had some sort of conversation with AC Milan for Malick Thiaw – the German centre-back. He remains one of the players they appreciate, but I’m told they have a proper shortlist with three or four names for the new centre-back.
“I think Newcastle will be busy maybe covering three to four positions including the goalkeeper, with James Trafford still being their priority target there.”
There’s been a lot of talk around Thiaw after we missed out on Tosin Adarabioyo to Chelsea, while the Portuguese media have credited us with strong interest in Benfica’s Antonio Silva.
In goal, it was suggested last week that we’ve cooled our interest in Burnley’s Trafford after two goalkeepers arrived, yet Romano seems to think we’re still in the mix following talks with the Clarets and a failed £16m bid last month.
