Bayern Munich in pole position to sign €60 million-rated Barcelona attacking target – report

While Nico Williams is understood to be the priority target for FC Barcelona this summer, they have also been working silently over the possible acquisition of his compatriot Dani Olmo.

The 26-year-old RB Leipzig forward has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract which will be valid until 20 July.

Olmo has previously stated that a move to Barcelona, his boyhood club, is very much an option for him this summer. In fact, manager Hansi Flick is said to favour the versatile forward over the Athletic Club winger.

However, given the Catalans’ focus on Williams and their need to make some sales before being able to sign, any move for Olmo would likely have to wait.

Bayern Munich in pole position

Given the situation, SPORT reports that Bayern Munich are currently in pole position to sign Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig this summer.

For starters, the Bavarian giants are understood to have the necessary funds to pull off the Spaniard’s signing right away.

Furthermore, it is claimed that RB Leipzig will stick by the €60 million figure even though his release clause expires in under a week.

Max Eberl, Bayern Munich’s sporting director, was the one who inserted that clause in Olmo’s deal while working at RB Leipzig and is advocating the move for the Spaniard.

On top of that, Olmo, who would like to play for Barça, is not willing to wait for the Catalan club to solve all his problems and sees Bayern as an important step in his career after enjoying a successful UEFA Euro 2024 campaign.

Barcelona are interested and want to negotiate with RB Leipzig over his transfer fee, but with Bayern Munich and a few other clubs willing to pay €60 million, the Blaugrana find themselves at a disadvantage.
