Hansi Flick’s tenure at FC Barcelona has not been off to the best of starts in terms of injuries as several players have already been hit with fitness issues.
Pedri suffered a knee injury while on international duty with Spain while Ronald Araujo was sidelined for four months due to a hamstring problem he sustained when playing for Uruguay.
Now, another injury has befallen the Barcelona squad as midfield prospect Pablo Torre has fractured his hand during a training session today, the club have confirmed.
“Men’s first team player Pablo Torre fractured his fifth metacarpal bone in his left hand in an impact during today’s training session,” the statement from the club read.
“He is set to have surgery in the coming days under Doctor Xavi Mir’s supervision. A medical update will be provided once the intervention is complete.”
This comes as a concern for Barcelona, who are already short on options in midfield in the pre-season.
Returning from a loan spell at Girona, Torre was hoping to get a chance to prove himself to new manager Flick and earn a spot in the team despite reports suggesting that he has no place in the plans.
As such, the injury setback comes as a major blow for the young midfielder who will now face an extended spell on the sidelines.
Barcelona will now proceed in the pre-season without Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and Fermin Lopez (Olympics duty) with Torre joining the list.
Meanwhile, Ilkay Gundogan is away on holiday after a quarter-final run at the Euros with Germany leaving Flick with very few options in midfield.
