Apart from Nico Williams and a central midfielder, FC Barcelona also intend to reinforce the right-back position this summer.

Joao Cancelo, back at Manchester City after his loan deal expired, remains the priority candidate for the position.

However, talks over another loan deal are proving difficult as the Premier League champions are pushing for a permanent sale with clubs in Saudi Arabia ready to splash the cash.

Jeremie Frimpong’s agents in contact

As such, Bayer Leverkusen and Netherlands right-back Jeremie Frimpong is being looked at as a possible alternative by Barcelona.

In fact, now, Gerard Romero reports that Frimpong’s agents have been in constant contact with Barcelona in recent days.

However, as things stand, the Netherlands international is not seen as a priority target by the Blaugrana.

The Catalan heavyweights, for now, are focused on other deals with the Nico Williams operation taking precedence.

Furthermore, there is also the need for the club to receive the green light from La Liga over the Financial Fair Play situation as well.

Even when that is achieved, the likelihood is that Barcelona prioritise re-signing Cancelo on loan from Manchester City.

Frimpong has a release clause worth €40 million in his contract with Bayer Leverkusen and the German giants are unlikely to offer any discounts on that amount.

It would make signing the Dutch defender a challenge for Barcelona as they would still need to set aside funds for a central midfielder as well.

So, despite there being regular contacts between the two camps, a deal appears unlikely at the moment.
