Tanner Tessmann looked destined to join Serie A giants Inter Milan this summer, but that potential move is in jeopardy of collapsing.
Venezia was open to selling Tessmann to Inter Milan, with hopes that the American midfielder would return on loan for the upcoming season. However, struggles to nail down an official loan agreement or destination for Tessmann could potentially ruin the move before the campaign begins.
Fiorentina, Torino, Bologna, Como, and Everton have all been linked with the 22-year-old this summer, while Venezia would like to retain Tessmann for its return to Serie A play following promotion last May.
Venezia sporting director Filippo Antonelli confirmed the continued interest in Tessmann but also admitted that an official transfer is nowhere close to being completed.
“[The transfer] was closed with the club [Inter]. We wanted to keep the player on loan, but he wants to go elsewhere,” Antonelli said in a press conference Friday. “Inter have been looking for a solution but they still haven’t identified which club he could join on loan. The deal may collapse because of this.
“Torino didn’t call me personally,” he said. “Como did call me and Fiorentina made an inquiry. His agents say that there are many foreign clubs interested, but they haven’t yet called me.”
Tessmann was crucial in Venezia’s promotion back to Serie A, scoring seven goals and adding three assists in 42 combined appearances. The former FC Dallas homegrown has taken part in three Italian seasons with Venezia to date, but very well could be sporting different colors when the 2024-25 campaign begins in August.
Tessmann is currently with the U.S. men’s Olympic team ahead of the start of group stage play in France next week.
