According to reports on Monday morning, Newcastle United are one of three Premier League clubs showing interest in Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran.
The Mirror’s James Nursey reveals that the Colombian is expected to push for a move away from Villa Park this week, with West Ham, Newcastle and Chelsea all admirers of the forward.
Aston Villa are thought to be demanding £40m for the South American and it’s West Ham who are currently leading the race. The Hammers have made three bids and are ‘getting close’ to striking an agreement with Villa, says Nursey, so it sounds like we’ll have to move quickly if we want Duran in as our long-term replacement for Callum Wilson; who is currently injured again after a minor procedure on his back.
The issue, however, is that Duran appears to favour a move to the London Stadium. Not just for first-team football but the chance to work with fellow Spanish speaker Julien Lopetegui.
He’s an exciting talent with pace, power and plenty of ferocity about his play, but he’s still raw, won’t come cheap and clearly wants guarantees over his minutes. With Alexander Isak our clear No.1 choice up top, it may be a difficult deal to do for a few reasons.
