Barcelona plan to reward 21-year-old breakout starlet with an improved contract

While Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi were heralded as the top breakout stars for Barcelona last season, a certain Fermin Lopez also enjoyed an excellent debut season with the Catalan heavyweights.

The 21-year-old midfield prospect ended the campaign with a return of 11 goals and an assist from 42 games, showcasing his potential and quality.

Based on his exploits for Barça, Fermin got a call-up to the Spanish national team and went on to win the UEFA Euro 2024 with them before flying to Paris for the Olympics.

Barcelona intend to hand Fermin a new contract

Now, SPORT reports that Barcelona have made it a mission to renew the contract of Fermin Lopez, less than a year after he signed a new deal.

The 21-year-old was handed a new contract by Barça in August last year, with the La Masia midfielder committing his future to the club until 2027.

However, the club have in mind to improve the youngster’s conditions to adapt to his growing stature after he was one of the most outstanding players last season.

A few months after signing his new contract, Fermin was promoted to the first team, making use of the salary space freed up due to Gavi’s season-ending injury.

But for the next season, it will be necessary to regularise his situation and process his first-team licence again.

Contacts between the parties regarding a renewal for Fermin have already begun, although the current focus is on closing the transfer deals on the agenda to equip Hansi Flick with the best possible squad.

Afterwards, the focus will shift to other matters, including the midfield starlet’s renewal, which will see him being offered improved wages, considering that he still earns much less than some of his teammates.
