Liga MX All-Stars rolls past MLS in 2024 All-Star Game

Liga MX enjoyed a comfortable victory over MLS’ best in the 2024 MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday night.

A 4-1 win for the Mexican side saw four different players get on the scoresheet, including two in each half. Columbus Crew forward Cucho Hernandez scored the lone goal for the MLS All-Stars, but it wasn’t enough in the final scoreline.

It marked the first head-to-head victory for the Liga MX All-Stars in three tries.

Germán Berterame broke the deadlock in the 16th minute, but the lead would only last for one minute for Liga MX’s best. Hernandez tied the match off the ensuing restart, giving the teams a 1-1 scoreline.

Oussama Idrissi propelled the Liga MX All-Stars ahead 2-1 in the 41st minute, making it 2-1 heading into the interval.

Juan Brunetta and Maximiliano Meza added insurance goals after the hour mark for the Liga MX All-Stars, giving them a 4-1 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish at Lower.com Field.

“It was an incredible game,” Liga MX coach Andre Jardine said. “There were a lot of high-level players. It was a tight game. Both teams definitely came out to play. In the second half they came out with a lot of great names as well. I was a bit surprised. It was a bit difficult, especially in the first 15 minutes, but we had to adjust and ultimately it was a great game.”

All 29 players featured for the MLS All-Stars, who were managed by Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy.

The rivalry between MLS and Liga MX continues over the next month with the start of the 2024 Leagues Cup schedule this weekend.
