Ben Dawson is set to leave the Newcastle United’s U21 set-up to become a first-team coach at Leicester City alongside new boss Steve Cooper.
His sudden departure after 10 years on Tyneside leaves the club in need of an immediate replacement ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League 2 season, as he’s accepted the Foxes offer and is set to join the newly-promoted club in the next 24 hours.
Dawson had previously worked as the club’s First Team Development Coach but agreed to lead the club’s U21 coaching team as part of an Academy overhaul put into place by Dan Ashworth at the start of 2023.
He’s played a key role in developing our youngsters since then and has bags of experience at Academy level, arriving as a development coach in 2014 before guiding our second string to the Premier League 2 Division Two play-offs and the finals of the Premier League Cup in an 18-month spell between January 2018 and June 2019.
He was then promoted to first-team affairs in 2021, however, he’s returned to Academy matters over the past 18 months to coach our ‘reserves’ and help develop a pathway from youth to senior level.
