Barcelona are always on the lookout for new talents, especially those whose contracts are set to expire in 2025.
This strategy opens up exciting possibilities for the club, including the potential return of two of its former stars: Lionel Messi and Neymar. Both players’ contracts are up in the summer of 2025, and their return would be a significant event for Barcelona.
One of the main challenges, however, is the financial aspect. Affording the salaries of both Messi and Neymar could be a significant hurdle for Barcelona.
Messi is still going strong
The club has faced financial difficulties in recent years, which led to Messi’s departure in 2021. He joined Paris Saint-Germain after Barcelona were unable to register his contract due to financial constraints.
Currently, Messi is playing for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer and continues to perform at a high level. Despite being 37 years old, he scored 14 goals in 15 matches last season and won the Copa America with Argentina, proving he still has much to offer on the field.

Neymar’s situation is a bit different. He left Barcelona in 2017 to join PSG, but his career has had its ups and downs since then.
Despite his talent and ability to score goals, Neymar has often been overshadowed by his teammate Kylian Mbappe.
This led him to move to Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, where he hoped for a fresh start. Unfortunately, a serious injury limited his participation in the 2023/24 season to just four matches.
One Last Dance
Both Messi and Neymar are enjoying lucrative contracts at their current clubs, something that Barcelona might struggle to match.
However, beyond the financial considerations, there is a strong emotional connection between these players and the club, as they have a deep bond with Barcelona, and their return could bring a sense of nostalgia and excitement to the fans.
