Tyler Adams’ latest surgery has provided the American midfielder with a new view on his career.
Adams, who underwent back surgery after his international involvement at the Copa America, is set miss the start of AFC Bournemouth’s English Premier League campaign. The 25-year-old featured in four of the U.S. men’s national team’s matches earlier this summer, including all three group stage matches on home soil.
However, even Adams’ best efforts couldn’t help the Americans avoid an early exit from the competition.
Following a permanent transfer to Bournemouth last summer, Adams missed most of the season after re-aggravating a hamstring injury and also enduring back spasms over the final few weeks. Still, the aggressive midfielder did feature for the USMNT, which has now led to his latest spell off the field.
Adams will want to feature heavily for the Cherries this season and manager Andoni Iraola will hope to have him available as soon as possible. Knowing that he isn’t a youngster anymore, Adams admitted that he needs to be smarter with his choices on the field.
“After Copa, I was still feeling a little something,” Adams said in a recent episode of The Cooligans podcast. “So I’m happy to have that dealt with. I’m going through a rehab process now. I won’t miss too much of the beginning part of the season. So hopefully four or five games, three or four maybe. And then hopefully I can just fly through the season and have some consistency.
“I think the biggest thing for me is, throughout the rehab process, throughout the way that I play in games, it’s only 100 percent for me,” he added. “Every single day in training, every single day in games. And I don’t have an ability to tune it down a notch. So sometimes I just need to realize I need to take a step back and just relax a little bit. I’m starting to learn that a little bit more and more. But yeah, I go 100 percent all the time. So yeah, that’s probably why…
