The battle between Barcelona and Nike has been ongoing for a while now.
The American MNC have enjoyed a long and healthy relationship with the Catalan kings but both parties came very close to separating ways earlier this year, especially with Barcelona feeling that Nike’s current contract did not value the club.
After taking the matter to court, it became clear that the two parties cannot break their contract without a sizeable settlement fee. However, the legal route served as a route of pushing for a revised contract on better terms.
Expecting an improvement
Barcelona currently collect €52 million from Nike but believe that they should be paid as much as €120 million per year. Moreover, they see an additional amount above the aforementioned figure to be their part of e-commerce sales.
As revealed in a recent update by Mundo Deportivo Nike’s last offer to the club stood at €95 million per year with a premium of €150 million included. The deal was proposed for ten years with the option of an additional five.
Barcelona, however, are still not convinced as expect at least €115 million per year with a premium. The club anticipate developments in the coming month and hope for a definitive offer on further improved terms.
The outlet also adds that Barcelona continue negotiating with Puma despite knowing well the difficulties of terminating the ongoing contract. Needless to say, it is part of the club’s effort to pressurise the American MNC to upgrade the current offer.
It remains to be seen how talks progress over the coming month. At this point, nothing can be definitively ruled out, especially considering that the club could really use the money.
