In a major update, journalist Santi Aouna reports that Atletico Madrid have made contact with FC Barcelona over the possibility of signing French defender Clement Lenglet.
The 29-year-old defender is back at the Catalan club after a loan stint at Aston Villa, but has no place in the team and as such, has been heavily linked with an exit.
There has been tentative interest from clubs like AC Milan and Besiktas while more recently Real Sociedad also presented themselves as suitors. But the centre-back’s wages have been an issue.
Lenglet wants to join Atletico Madrid
Now, Atletico Madrid have also entered the race to sign Lenglet this summer, with the aforementioned report even stating that the Frenchman wants to join Los Colchoneros.
Atletico have already signed Robin Le Normand from Real Sociedad this summer but are eager to bring in another centre-half before the window closes.
The Rojiblancos have been exploring moves for David Hancko and Nayef Aguerd but have hit roadblocks in their pursuit.

As such, they have now switched their attention to Lenglet and have already held talks with his representative over a possible switch.
Furthermore, the report adds that contacts have also been established between Atleti and Barcelona.
Lenglet impressing Flick in pre-season
Lenglet has been used frequently by Hansi Flick in pre-season and even though the 29-year-old does not feature in the club’s plans, the manager has been impressed by the defender.
The former Sevilla man has been available in training since the start of the pre-season on July 10 and has received minutes both against UE Olot and Manchester City last night.
But, Barcelona have no plans to retain him, especially given his bloated salary and the club’s difficult financial situation.
With talks now underway with Atletico Madrid, all parties will hope to come to an agreement at the earliest possible.
