Report – €60 million-rated Bundesliga forward is Barcelona director Deco’s bet

FC Barcelona’s activity in the summer transfer window has yet to take off but they have high ambitions with the club targeting both Nico Williams and Dani Olmo.

The pair took the UEFA Euro 2024 by storm, leading Spain to victory by producing dominant performances in each of the knockout stages.

While the buzz surrounding Nico Williams’ potential transfer to Barcelona has subsided in recent days due to the player’s reluctance to leave his boyhood club, the Catalans are concurrently working on securing the arrival of Dani Olmo.

Olmo is Deco’s bet

Indeed, according to Adrian Sanchez, Dani Olmo is sporting director Deco’s bet for strengthening Barcelona’s midfield.

Deco believes that Olmo’s versatility, experience, and goalscoring instincts can significantly enhance the team’s effectiveness in the final third.

After all, the 26-year-old’s play style perfectly aligns with Hansi Flick’s philosophy of utilizing an attacking midfielder to orchestrate plays and drive offensive momentum.

Barcelona are presently vying to negotiate a fee with RB Leipzig, having already agreed personal terms with the player and having him fully on board.

Despite interest from heavyweights like Manchester City, Olmo insists on returning to his boyhood club and reuniting with several of his Spanish national teammates.

The Catalans have seen an initial offer getting rejected, with Leipzig holding out for a fee of €60 million – which was the value of the player’s expired release clause.

No shortage of options

However, it must be noted that the Catalan giants possess a wealth of options in the number 10 role.

Ilkay Gundogan, Pedri, and Fermin Lopez have all shown their qualities in the position, especially Fermin who scored 11 goals last season, despite playing irregularly.
