August 2 – Women’s football investor Michele Kang (pictured), who owns Washington Spirit, Olympique Lyonnais Féminin and London City Lionesses, has created Kynisca Sports International as part of a mission to unlock the performance potential of women’s football.
Kang’s newly launched Kynisca Innovation Hub (KIH) is looking to raise $100 million to support its goal to ‘unlock female athletic potential’ by revolutionising training methods on the Women’s side of the sport.
Kynisca’s ambition stretches beyond Kang’s current ownership portfolio and has hinted at plans to unite elite clubs and invest in infrastructure across Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe to drive innovation in women’s sports.
Kang has assured that all three of her current clubs will maintain their identities, heritage, and community ties.
The announcement came with assurances that centralised resources will be dedicated to enhance capabilities shared across all teams.
This includes advancements in performance science and technology, data analytics, global scouting, and the development of sporting staff.
“With the necessary backing, Kynisca aims to inspire young girls to pursue their dreams and embrace a career in football on a scale and level of professional success that should not be reserved only for their male peers,” said Kang. “We will provide opportunities for girls and women worldwide to access high-level sport, reach their potential under the best conditions, and play football in the clubs of the global elite.”
She continued: “With so little investment in sports science focused on women, we have only begun to unlock the potential of female athletes on the pitch. Kynisca Innovation Hub will become a pioneer of female performance research – so we can stop training women as if they are simply small men – and unlock their true potential.”
