Bayern Munich director breaks silence on Matthijs De Ligt to Man United

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has broken his silence on Matthijs De Ligt’s transfer links to Manchester United.

The Netherlands international emerged as a possible target earlier in the window but the Red Devils’ recent capture of Leny Yoro, who has been Erik Ten Hag’s first big defensive signing, from Lille was thought to end any hopes fans may have had of the club signing another centre-back.

That hasn’t been the case though. Yoro’s unfortunate pre-season foot injury, which is set to keep him sidelined for several months, has forced United back into the transfer market in search of another senior centre-back.

“I will comment on that (possible move to Manchester United) when the time comes. It’s not that time yet,” he told Sky Sports.

“Matthijs played very well here for two years and that’s why many fans like him.

Matthijs De Ligt is wanted by Manchester United.

“Nevertheless, you have to think about how you decide and also how the boy feels. He is still a player for FC Bayern. And as long as he is, he will get all the support from us.”
