Newcastle United look set to sign Kyle Fitzgerald from Galway United, but the young Irishman is not the only new face joining our U21 ranks.
As we revealed in a NUFC Blog exclusive on Saturday morning, Fitzgerald will join fellow Irish U17 international Rory Finneran on Tyneside, while 18-year-old Muhamadou Sedibeh has arrived from Bradford City, as reported first by Magpie Media.
Both Fitzgerald and Sedibeh – a Spanish forward also eligible for Gambia – featured in the U21s pre-season friendly with South Shields yesterday, with the pair noted as ‘trialist A’ and ‘trialist B’ on the team sheets. Fitzgerald came off just after the hour mark, with Sedibeh featuring for the final 25 minutes.
After reporting in our story yesterday, The Chronicle suggest that Fitzgerald could return to Galway for the remainder of the year before linking up with our U21s in January once he’s turned 18. For Sedibeh, he’s expected to sign from Bradford’s U19s following an impressive trial.
The club have also been busy adding to their U15 ranks ahead of the new 2024/25 season. Following the arrival of highly-rated midfielder CJ Afumuzor from Portsmouth, we revealed last week that Theo Benjamin – son of former Leicester striker Trevor Benjamin – has joined alongside Charlton centre-back Lesecond Yeutembip; who recently featured in a friendly in Japan for our youth side.
