Barcelona midfielder in a transfer tug-of-war between two Turkish clubs – report

If indeed Barcelona sign Dani Olmo, who appears to be their top transfer target, the team will be overloaded in the attacking midfield department.

After all, Ilkay Gündogan, Pedri, Fermín López and even Gavi already compete for a starting spot in the department.

Ahead of the new season, there has thus been doubt over the future of Ilkay Gündogan. Barcelona’s financial situation demands a big sale, and the German star could well be a surplus resource with good market value.

A tug-of-war

Over the past few days, Gündogan has been linked with two Turkish clubs: Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.

In fact, Mundo Deportivo further that there have also been talks of the player making a trip to Turkey to finalise his future which has been agreed by Barcelona, Galatasaray and his representative.

While the player has always insisted that it is his dream to represent Okan Buruk’s side, reports in Turkey paint a different picture by linking him with Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe.

The Spanish outlet thus reveals that the entire tug-of-war is only a means to lure the veteran midfielder away from the club he dreams of representing and towards Fenerbahçe who have also spoken to his entourage.

Despite the speculations, however, Gündogan is reportedly set to stay in Catalonia for one more season and see out his contract.

After all, he was a vital part of the team’s plans last season and Hansi Flick’s arrival only gives him all the more reason to believe in his chances.

Everything, as it stands, will boil down to Olmo’s potential arrival and the competition in the squad should the high-profile signing go through.
