Barcelona director Deco’s integral role in sealing €55 million signing – report

After weeks of speculations and negotiations, FC Barcelona finally made a breakthrough in their pursuit of RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo.

Indeed, an agreement was reached between the two clubs for the transfer of the 26-year-old Spaniard in a deal worth €55 million, plus another €7 million in add-ons.

Olmo, who had already agreed a six-year contract with the Blaugrana, is already in Barcelona to complete the remaining formalities such as the medicals and the contract signing.

The crucial role played by Deco

Barcelona director Deco flew to Leipzig, along with Olmo’s agents, to finalise the operation and finally seal the first major signing of the summer for the club.

Now, Mundo Deportivo has come out with a report that highlights the integral role played by Deco in securing the transfer.

As per the report, both Dani Olmo and his father, Miguel, as well as the player’s representatives, Juanma Lopez and Andy Bara, are more than grateful to Deco for his involvement from day one in the operation to secure his return to Barcelona.

The player’s entourage believes Deco was able to play his cards well and secure a deal with good conditions for Barça from RB Leipzig, even though other interested clubs like Bayern Munich, Man City and Liverpool would have met the demands of the Bundesliga club.

While Olmo was always set on a return to Barcelona, Deco ensured that the UEFA Euro 2024 winner felt valued and convinced him to wait for the club.

The former midfielder warned the player of Barça’s financial limitations from the outset. Furthermore, the constancy in the communication, informing of the steps he was following, made Olmo feel valued, unlike other sporting directors who have tempted him over the years.
