With just a few weeks remaining until the summer transfer window slams to a shut, Barcelona are getting increasingly desperate to seal a few departures.
Clement Lenglet is among the players likely to leave the club, as he is not a part of Hansi Flick’s project going forward.
For much of the transfer window, Barça had a difficult time finding a suitor for Lenglet, primarily due to his high salary demands. However, the club have received green shoots of late.
Atletico Madrid speed up Lenglet pursuit
In a significant development, Eldesmarque reports Atletico Madrid has received the green light from Diego Simeone to go after Lenglet this summer.
The Spanish giants had earlier rejected the opportunity to sign the Frenchman due to his exorbitant wages.

However, it appears Atleti have resumed negotiations for Lenglet to the point where an agreement could be reached in the coming days.
Lenglet was initially supposed to join Villarreal, but Simeone’s green light has allowed Atletico Madrid to make a late swoop.
Atleti were initially eyeing a move for Feyenoord’s David Hancko, but they have recently made a course correction due to the high costs associated with the defender’s signing.
Lenglet, to that end, has emerged as the ideal alternative as Simeone looks to shore up his options in central defence.
A familiar road
Lenglet’s move to Civitas Metropolitano would see the defender follow a path many ex-Barcelona players have taken in the recent past.
The likes of Memphis Depay, Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez have all moved to Atletico Madrid after a spell at Barcelona.
On the flip side, Joao Felix joined Barça on loan from Atleti last summer. The Catalans were initially keen on renewing the attacker’s loan deal, but that doesn’t appear to be a possibility right now.
