Barcelona midfielder Pedri was a regular starter for Spain in the recently concluded European Championship that Spain went on to conquer. An untimely injury, however, saw him retire to the sidelines and bow out of on-field action.
The player who replaced him in Luis de La Fuente’s on-field dynamics, ironically, was Barcelona’s imminent signing Dani Olmo who even went on to finish as the joint top-scorer of the event.
Despite their competition for a similar spot on the field, Pedri and Olmo share a good rapport and have shared the dressing room on multiple occasions.
Needless to say, the midfield maestro and the entire Spanish core in Catalonia are pleased with Joan Laporta and Co. all but closing the RB Leipzig star’s recruitment ahead of next season.
Pedri talks Olmo, injury
Interacting with fans on The Residency recently, the Barcelona midfielder was quizzed subtly about the hiring of Dani Olmo. Furtively asked if he liked the RB Leipzig star’s hair, Pedri bought the joke before all but confirming the new signing.
“That question would be for my hairdresser,” he began.
“I like that he came to Barça because we get along very well and surely he contributes many things. It was already seen in the European Championship,” he added.

As part of the same interaction, he was asked how he felt training alongside Gavi again over the past few weeks. After all, both players are currently recovering from injuries and working hard in the club facilities.
“Very good. I’m glad to see him getting better and better,” he said.
Finally, the Canary Island-based midfielder confirmed that he would not make it in time for the Joan Gamper Trophy clash.
“No, [I have] not yet [recovered].”
