Former Barcelona captain training at club facilities, mulling over Premier League, Serie A offers

Sergi Roberto saw his contract with FC Barcelona expire on June 30 and more than a month later, the former club captain’s future is still far from being resolved.

The 32-year-old has a contract proposal from Barcelona, but it is subject to several conditions with no guarantees offered over his registration either.

As such, with each passing day, it seems like that the La Masia product may have played his final game for Barça and will sign for a new club.

Roberto continues to use Barcelona facilities for training

Given that his contract expired before the start of the pre-season, Roberto was not asked to report to training under Hansi Flick this summer.

As such, the veteran midfielder has been training by himself to stay in shape for when his future is decided, one way or another.

As reported last week, though, despite no longer being contracted with Barça, Roberto is still occasionally showing up to train at the club facilities.

Indeed, the former Barcelona captain has posted images and clips of him training by himself at the Ciutat Esportiva even though his contract has expired.

Future undecided

As mentioned earlier, though, Roberto’s future is still up in the air. There is a proposal on the table from Barcelona according to Mundo Deportivo, but it is unlikely that the veteran will continue at the club.

Instead, the former Barcelona captain is already looking at other proposals, with the report stating that he prefers a move either to the Premier League or the Italian Serie A.

At the same time, though, a transfer to the MLS in the USA or the Saudi Arabian Pro League is not entirely off the table either.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Roberto but his continuity at Barcelona appears unlikely, with reports even suggesting that new signing Dani Olmo will take his No. 20 shirt at the club.
