Romanian city of Iasi commits to €113m new stadium

August 8 – Mihai Chirica, mayor of the Romanian city of Iasi, has said he is restarting the project to build a new stadium in the city Iasi, which is located close to the Moldovan border.

The stadium will have a capacity of 24,000 seats, and will cost €113 million to build. Part of the money is secured with credit from the local bank.

The municipal stadium will be named King Ferdinand I, and the crown of the Romanian ruler inspires its design.

“The project to build a European-level stadium in the Municipality of Iaşi takes another important step. I signed the contract and the order to start the updating services of the “King Ferdinand I” Municipal Stadium project, taking into account the new location in the area of the Era complex. The documentation will be completed in no more than four months by SC Design Projects Solutions SRL for RON 312,375  (€62 764) including VAT,” said Chirica.

“We have at our disposal both a plot of land of 45 hectares in the area and an amount of RON 100 million to start the works, the money coming from a loan contracted from BRD – Groupe Société Générale.”

Seating for the general public will be organized on two tiers said Chirica. “The functions intended for the general public will be organized on the ground floor, so that each sector will benefit independently from sanitary groups, public food areas, etc.”
A museum dedicated to the FC Politehnica lași team will be oncorporated into the stadium, as will a fan shop, and a store with sporting goods.
