With just a few weeks remaining before the transfer market slams to a shut, Barcelona are scrambling to get rid of unwanted players in their bid to reduce the inflated wage bill.
The club are notably prepared to get rid of star midfielder Frenkie de Jong for just €60 million. But Barça are also ready to offload younger players such as Mika Faye.
Despite being a part of Barcelona’s pre-season trip to the United States, the young defensive prodigy is facing an uncertain future at the club.
A host of clubs have continued to be linked with a move for Faye, who is regarded as the best defensive talent in the Barcelona youth setup.
Rennes send €10 million offer for Faye
In a significant development, Fabrizio Romano claims Rennes have formally sent a bid for Faye worth around €10 million.
The proposal also includes an important sell-on clause of around 20-25%. It appears the French club are hopeful of luring Barcelona to agree a deal by adding a sell-on fee, which helps the Catalans retain future control of the player.
Romano adds that Barcelona have asked for a buy-back clause in Faye’s deal in order to be able to sign the player on a cut-price deal in the future.
The Catalans, after all, are aware of Faye’s stupendous talent. But under the current circumstances, they are not in a position to guarantee him regular game time.
Will Barça accept the offer?
A revenue boost of €10 million will definitely aid Barcelona’s coffers in the short-term, but the club would perhaps eye for a bigger deal, as far as Faye’s departure is concerned.
As mentioned earlier, the club value the player’s potential quite highly and would, therefore, look to receive at least €15-20 million.
That is on top of a potential sell-on fee that will allow Barcelona to sign the player at a lower valuation going forward.
