Newcastle offered £10m talent three years after £1.5m exit – Report

Bobby Clark has been offered an opportunity to return to Newcastle, according to reports in The Chronicle.

The son of former Magpies’ player Lee Clark and product of Newcastle’s academy moved to Liverpool in August 2021, leaving for a reported £1.5m just a few months before the Saudi takeover on Tyneside.

Clark is highly rated at Anfield and featured in the Liverpool side that won the Carabao Cup in February. However, his chances of playing regularly are limited, and new manager Arnie Slot is therefore willing to part with the midfielder for an appropriate fee.

Although Liverpool reportedly offered Clark back to Newcastle, it is unlikely that the player will return to Tyneside at the current time. Newcastle have plenty of midfield options, meaning Clark would likely struggle for game time, though Eddie Howe is believed to be keen to continue monitoring his progress.

At present, the Austrian Bundesliga appears to be the most likely destination for the 19 year old with Red Bull Salzburg keen to negotiate a deal with Liverpool. The Times report that Salzburg have just submitted their third bid, believed to be closer to Liverpool’s £10m asking price.

A move to the Austrian side would see Clark reuniting with Jurgen Klopp’s former number two at Anfield, Pep Ljinders, with the Dutchman having been appointed as Salzburg’s manager in May.

Another option would be loan moves to a Championship side with Leeds, Norwich, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Preston, Blackburn, Derby, QPR and Millwall all submitting enquiries, according to Lee Ryder.
