Christian Cappis joins Viking FK in permanent deal

Norway will be the new home of American midfielder Christian Cappis.

Cappis has joined Norwegian first division side Viking FK in a permanent deal from Danish club Brondby, the clubs announced. He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract until 2027 and will be available for the club immediately.

SBI previously reported the pending transfer on Sunday.

“I am very happy to have signed for Viking. Viking is one of the biggest clubs in Norway and has a very exciting project underway,” said Cappis. “I’m really looking forward to getting started and settling in properly here in Stavanger and in Viking. I have heard a lot of good things about the club from those I have talked to, who have had a good influence on my choice. I have ambitions to win games and be part of fighting at the top – in the same way as Viking has.”

The 25-year-old spent the last three years at Brondby, totaling 65 appearances, eight goals and three assists. After coming up through the FC Dallas academy, Cappis moved to Danish side Hobro in 2018.

He tallied one goal and six assists in 64 combined appearances with Hobro, teaming up with fellow American, Emmanuel Sabbi.

Cappis spent the first half of last season on loan at fellow Norwegian side Molde, making four appearances in the Eliteserien. He now has a return to Norway, with hopes of earning consistent playing time.

A former U.S. Under-18, Under-20, and Under-23 men’s national team player, Cappis has yet to earn his senior USMNT debut.

Viking continues its Norwegian league schedule with an away trip to Rosenborg on August 18.
