Crystal Palace chief Steve Parish has spoken out on Newcastle United’s attempts to sign Marc Guehi – and it’s not the update we were all hoping for.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, the Eagles’ co-owner and chairman insists “nobody” has matched Palace’s valuation of the 24-year-old yet, stating clubs must pay “superstar money” to sign a “superstar player.”
This suggestions our third bid – a reported £55m plus £5m in add-ons – has NOT been accepted, with Parish calling the England international a “generational talent” that they would “love to keep.”
He said: “Nobody has got to the valuation yet. If you want a superstar player you need to pay superstar money. It’s not near the point where we have to make a decision.
“We love having him and would love to keep him. If someone else wants to have him they need to make it really difficult for us. He’s a generational talent.”
The question now is, do Newcastle make another bid or do we switch to other targets? Whatever happens, we could do with making progress soon after spending the last 10 days working on a deal for Guehi.
