France’s Ligue 2 fan groups plan protests against LFP and beIN Sports scheduling

August 13 – France’s Ligue 2 opens its 2024/25 season on Friday but with a growing fan protest over broadcast scheduling will likely do so in front of empty stadia.

Club supporters groups have combined to protest against the LFP’s scheduling decision, taken at the request of French broadcaster beIN Sports, to schedule eight of the nine Ligue 2 matches during the week.

Under the title ‘Le Foot, C’est Le Week-End!’ the fan groups have issued a joint statement saying they will not participate in cheering or chanting but will take part in a “renewable strike of all their entertainment activities in the stands”.

By their silence they say they will send a message to the league and broadcaster. They said they will continue to do this until the schedules are changed.

The supporters groups have promised protests against beIN Sports and encouraged fans to cancel their beIN Sports subscriptions until the majority of matches are returned to weekend schedules, arguing that this is where they have been for 20 years and where they should remain.
