It feels like we are in the end times of the Guehi saga, with Palace set to reject Newcastle’s third, and allegedly final bid for the English defender.
The latest bid, thought to be £55m + £5m in add-ons appears to have been rejected by Palace. The news comes just hours after Palace Co-Owner and Chairmen Steve Parish was asked by Sky Sports and the BBC about the future of Guehi.
According to the Daily Mail, this bid has now been rejected, with Newcastle unlikely to meet the £65m valuation Palace have for Guehi. Rumours on Tuesday also suggested that Newcastle were keen to hold “face-to-face” negotiations with Palace in order to get a deal over the line. The latest rejection and comments from Parish have put doubt on those claims.
Newcastle’s move for Guehi is also somewhat complicated by Fulham being in the race to sign Palace defender Anderson. Palace values him at £40m, with Fulham rumoured to be around £15m away from that valuation as things stand.
Guehi is said to be “keen” on a move to Newcastle, however, reports suggest he isn’t willing to force a move any time soon. While Newcastle is a step up for Guehi, we don’t offer Europe, meaning Guehi isn’t likely to try and force the move.
For our two pence, we think Newcastle should look at alternative options. Palace clearly want the full £65 for Guehi, and Parish’s latest PR move is akin to that of Jim Ratcliffe during the Ashworth saga.
With a few weeks left of the window, there’s still time for Newcastle to react, however, with Howe still looking for a right-side CB and a right winger, time is ticking for Paul Mitchell to deliver on Howe’s needs.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish tells Newcastle to cough up ‘superstar money’ for Marc Guehi. The latest £55m+£5m offer rejected. There was a willingness from NUFC for face-to-face talks to seal an agreement. Remains to be seen how NUFC react. https://t.co/e8yCOSs0IM
